A Lifetime Of Service. A Career Built On Trust.

Tina Nieto has spent her career serving people, solving problems, and building trust through listening to the community and taking action. Her leadership is grounded in accountability, community engagement, and a deep commitment to Monterey County.

Tina Nieto’s story is one of service, perseverance,
and a lifelong commitment to public safety.

From humble beginnings to becoming Sheriff of Monterey County, Tina has built her career by showing up, doing the work, and earning trust one relationship at a time. Her path has been shaped by discipline, service, and a belief that strong public safety depends on strong community relationships.

When Monterey County voters elected Tina Nieto, they chose a leader committed to restoring trust, improving accountability, and strengthening the Sheriff’s Office from the inside out.

Since taking office, Sheriff Nieto has worked to deliver on that promise through community engagement, improved communication, stronger partnerships, and continued organizational progress.

While the foundation has been set, the work is not done yet. It is Tina’s goal to ensure the organizational change she has implemented at the Sheriff’s Office takes root and stands the test of time.

Leadership Rooted In Community

Sheriff Nieto believes that public safety begins with trust. That means listening to residents, being present in communities throughout Monterey County, and building partnerships that help keep people safe.

Her leadership is practical, local, and focused on results. She understands that the Sheriff’s Office must serve every part of Monterey County, from rural communities and agricultural regions to neighborhoods, coastal towns, and the unincorporated areas throughout our county.

Focused On

Progress

During her first term, Sheriff Nieto has worked to strengthen the Sheriff’s Office, improve morale, support recruitment and retention, invest in leadership, and build a culture rooted in professionalism and accountability.

She has also prioritized jail reform, community engagement, and stronger coordination with public safety partners throughout the county.

Finishing What
We Started

Real change takes time. Sheriff Nieto is running for re-election to continue the progress already underway and ensure that today’s improvements become lasting standards for the future.

The next term is about protecting the progress made, continuing the work in our jail and moving Monterey County forward.
